Joint Concert Premiere
JUNE 9,
2008, OKLAHOMA CITY – Bronze Tapestry and OKCRingTones, Oklahoma City’s newest
community handbell ensembles, announce their upcoming premiere concert series in
late June and mid-July throughout the Oklahoma City metro area.

Oklahoma City now has two new community choirs that are secular, consisting of
ringers from local churches. Over the past few decades, handbell ringing has
grown in popularity worldwide, although most handbell choirs, including those in
Oklahoma, are still affiliated with churches or schools.
These free concerts will inspire both musicians and non-musicians. The choirs’
founder and director, Marilyn Woodruff, said, “We exist to advance the musical
art of handbell and handchime ringing through education, community, and
communication in the Oklahoma City area and beyond. Ringing is a fun way to meet
new people, learn musical skills, and become an integral part of a group. I hope
these concerts will encourage ringers and non-ringers alike to explore music
more deeply.”
The concerts will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the following venues:
UPDATED June 30 --
Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 2717 West Hefner Road, OKC
July 17 -- Church of the Servant, 14343 N. MacArthur, OKC
July 18 -- Southern Hills Baptist Church, 8601 S. Penn, OKC
July 19 -- Custer Road United Methodist Church, 6100 Custer Road, Plano,
TX
The concerts will feature a varied repertoire, including original music for
handbells, along with sacred, classical, blues, and jazz pieces.
Both groups began in January 2008, as challenge groups for intermediate and
advanced ringers. OKCRingTones is a five-octave choir, with 13 members from nine
local churches, and Bronze Tapestry includes 14 members from eight metro
churches, performing advanced-level music on five to seven octaves of bells and
chimes.
